Based on Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Polyphony Digital’s best-selling PlayStation racing game, “Gran Turismo,” “Gran Turismo: Crossroads” has unveiled its latest trailer today. The movie is set to hit screens on August 23, with advance screenings from August 18 to 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gran Turismo: Crossroads” is inspired by an incredible true story. The plot follows the journey of 19-year-old esports player Yang Madenbauer from being a bedroom-bound video game enthusiast to a professional racing driver. Director Neill Blomkamp, known for acclaimed action films like “District 9” and “Elysium,” excitedly stated, ” ‘Gran Turismo: Crossroads’ is a film about the realization of the ultimate dream. Yang Madenbauer’s success was unforeseeable; you can have great reflexes or exceptional video game skills, but when you need to make decisions at 320 kilometers per hour in a racing car, that’s when you truly prove yourself.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In pursuit of creating a high-energy next-gen racing film, director Neill Blomkamp insisted that all action scenes be shot on location. David Harbour, who plays the coach, expressed astonishment, “I never anticipated that we would be shooting inside racing cars, driving on real international racetracks, practicing tire changes and inflation in the pit stop. I even found myself hovering in a helicopter nine meters above the racing cars. This shoot was intense; everyone took daring risks for this movie.” The production featured 65 classic cars worth over 1 billion NTD, including thrilling models like the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, Lamborghini Huracan GT3, Ferrari 488 GT3 EFO, McLaren 720S GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 R, and Audi R8 LMS GT3. Shooting spanned across the Slovakia Ring, Dubai Autodrome, the Hungaroring in Budapest, the Red Bull Ring in Austria, and Germany’s legendary N\u00fcrburgring Nordschleife. The film’s production scale is hailed as unprecedented on a global racing scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from utilizing a cockpit camera system similar to “Doom: Eternal,” the production team built a secondary cockpit on the car roof to capture actors’ shots at speeds of 225 kilometers per hour. This remarkable setup allowed stunt driver Yang Madenbauer, who also plays the protagonist Arthur Madway, to maneuver the car from this space. Thus, Yang Madenbauer, undertaking a pivotal and demanding role as his own stunt driver, brought the most authentic thrill to the screen. After months of intense training, Arthur Madway, the lead character, humorously commented on his racing talents, “I have the highest respect for all professional racers, but I’m honestly not cut out for racing. Being curled up in a narrow, stuffy cockpit and trapped in fear made me want to throw up. Besides, you have to be completely focused and make the right decisions in milliseconds. A race can make you lose 3 liters of sweat; it’s incredibly nerve-wracking, so let’s just not laugh about it for now!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official team pointed out that audiences now have the opportunity to experience firsthand the tense moments of a race driver inside a cockpit. Sony Pictures set up two racing experience setups on the 6th floor of the Miramar Entertainment Park in Taiwan, allowing people to immerse themselves in the thrilling tracks of “Gran Turismo 7.” Moreover, there’s a chance to win a PlayStation 5 PULSE 3D wireless headset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
