Starting today (Aug 16), the list grows from 20 games to 50 and now features brand-new search filters — plus the ability to look back at almost two decades of data.

Bigger Charts, More Discoverability
Originally launched in April 2019, the Top New Releases chart ranks games released in a given month based on their first two weeks of revenue. Until now, only the top 20 appeared. That number has now been expanded to 50, split into three tiers:

Gold: Top 12 titles of the month

Silver: Next 12 titles

Bronze: The remaining 26 titles

Players can now scroll back through charts as far as November 2004, offering a fascinating look at the biggest PC game launches of each month over the past 20 years. (Note: Games unavailable in your region will not appear.)

DLCs Can Chart Too
In a notable change, DLCs are now eligible to make the list. If a piece of downloadable content earns enough revenue within its launch period, it can secure a spot among that month’s top 50 — right alongside full game releases.

New Filtering Tools
To make browsing easier, Valve has added robust filter options to the chart. Players can now narrow the top 50 by genre, theme, art style, supported features, or user-applied tags, making it far quicker to zero in on titles that match their interests.

Bottom line: This update to Steam’s Top New Releases turns it from a quick “what’s hot” snapshot into a rich discovery tool — and a time machine for PC gaming fans curious about what was making waves all the way back in 2004.

©2025 Valve Corporatio.
