The project was led by David Kim, the former lead multiplayer designer of StarCraft II, who headed up Tencent’s Los Angeles-based Uncapped Games.

Billed as a “next-generation RTS,” Battle Aces looked to modernize the genre with streamlined base-building and resource systems, automatic resource gathering, and pre-match unit customization. Players could set their army compositions before matches, then focus on tactical micro-control during fast-paced battles. The game went through multiple closed testing phases in the past year.

Why It’s Shutting Down
In a statement, Uncapped Games said that while developing Battle Aces was an invaluable experience and the team deeply appreciated the passion and support from fans, feedback from testing simply wasn’t strong enough to justify continuing the project.

“This wasn’t a decision we made lightly,” the studio wrote. “Battle Aces represented a bold vision. We wanted to reimagine what a next-gen RTS could be—fast, tactical, approachable, but still rich in depth. Your enthusiasm, feedback, and support from internal tests to closed betas have been our driving force. We’re grateful to all who believed in our vision and joined us on this adventure.”

A Simplified RTS Vision
Unlike traditional RTS titles that demand intricate base expansion and manual resource harvesting, Battle Aces focused on quick, accessible battles. Resources were gathered automatically, letting players concentrate on unit production and tactical engagements to take down an opponent’s base. The goal was to create an RTS that was easy to pick up while retaining competitive depth.

With development now halted, Battle Aces joins the growing list of ambitious genre revamps that struggled to survive in today’s competitive market — a reminder that even veteran-led projects face steep challenges in the modern RTS landscape.

©2025 Uncapped Games.
